I certainly won't go too OTT, but for the future, do you have any ideas for making the face significant in some way in a very OTT coordinate? I'm honestly just curious. :)

Honestly, the only way to make a face really pop in an OTT coord is with makeup. Unless you happen to have flawless skin, big sparkly eyes, and extra long lashes naturally. It’s really just a matter of making your face look as OTT as your outfit!

I am a hopeful sweet lolita and I have a slight problem I thought someone as well-versed as you could help with. My skin doesn't react well to makeup at all, and even if it did, I have no talent in applying it. I've been thinking about a cute pair of pink glasses, but that's an imperfect solution. Do you have any help for cutely adorning a face without makeup?

Makeup isn’t a necessary accessory for Lolita! If you can’t wear makeup, my only suggestion would be to coordinate accordingly so that your face doesn’t get overwhelmed by the outfit. Usually the only sorts of outfits that I feel makeup is a necessity on are very OTT ones with large wigs, where every inch of you is decked out in something. If you go makeupless in an OTT outfit with a large wig your face is the only bit of you that’s not made up and it tends to look unbalanced on many people. If you tone down your outfits from OTT there’s no reason why you can’t get away without wearing makeup.

If you’re reacting badly to things like blush and foundation, you might be able to get away with mascara and lipstick/lipgloss, as some people who break out easily or get irritated by makeup can sometimes get away with either.

My (slightly late) Rufflecon haul! I had a great time, mostly due to the fact that I was extremely lucky the entire weekend. I sold out of almost everything I brought, I won an item from both raffles at the con, and through a stroke of sheer luck (and with great gratitude to the person who provided it) ended up with my dream item- a Triple Fortune bonnet!

After Rufflecon we did some shopping in NYC (mostly Brooklyn) and I was able to visit the three places I’ve been dying to go to since they opened- Ladurée, Baby/Tokyo Rebel, and the Morbid Anatomy Museum.

What I ended up with:

From Ladurée:

  • Ladurée cooler bag (the big black one), which I’ve wanted forever
  • Black Napoleon III macaron box
  • Candied violet petals (thank you asphodelgarden for catching them!)

From Rufflecon:

  • Triple Fortune bonnet in cream and dusty blue (my favourite classic colours!)
  • Triple Fortune/ Enchantlic Enchantilly tea party calandar
  • Enchantlic Enchantilly Grey and rose OTKs
  • Enchantlic Enchantilly Cutlery OTKs (I won a gift certificate in the Rufflecon tea party raffle, which I used on these)
  • GLW red wig (I won this in the GLW raffle, it’s a massive wig, I just wish it were a more natural colour!)

From Baby the Stars Shine Bright:

  • BtSSB stationery set
  • Gothic Lolita Bible Oct. 2014- I had to get if for the witch!

From the Morbid Anatomy Museum:

  • Morbid Anatomy Anthology
  • Museum tote bag
  • "How to skin a bird" illustrated instruction manual (for reals)
  • Taxidermy and Museum postcards
  • (not pictured) Museum logo t-shirt (which I’m wearing)
  • (not pictured) small brass charms for some necklaces I’m working on

And finally, from the duty-free shop, a bottle of Lucid Absinthe, which we can’t get easily in Ontario anymore.
